Fertilizers from vegetable or animal origin are called organic fertilizers. An advantage of organic fertilizers over synthetic fertilizers is that they bring organic material into the soil, which leads to an improvement of the soil's structure. This is better for the environment because there is less washing out of minerals and improved water absorption.
A healthy soil with immediately-absorbable and bound minerals requires a lot of attention in biological farming and is closely connected to the three principles on which biological farming is based.
Organic fertilizers, however, may still contain animal substances - something that the conscious biological grower prefers to avoid.
